The natural world

At this time I was interested in exploring both landscape and geological forms. This was an experimental  period, which was eventually a bit of a dead end creatively. By the end of the year I had realised that I needed to set myself tighter parameters and invest in more sketchbook time and experimentation. I was too keen to begin work on final pieces.
'Fire and Ice' was the high point of the year for two reasons. First that I realised the importance to me of highly stitched backgrounds, using handstitch and creating textured surfaces, and secondly because the piece was accepted for exhibition at Festival of Quilts Elements Gallery, was well received and went on tour round a number of galleries over the next twelve months.
'Levels'  made in response to the flooding in the Somerset Levels that winter                                                Geological formation inspired quilts
                                                                                                           Geological forms stitch details.
