Landscape surrounds us

Picture
I am very aware of the landscape that surrounds us. Its variety, colour, texture and impact on the sky. From the domestic and flat to hostile and mountainous its land forms and flora seem infinitely variable. Landscape is transformed by weather, the impact of bright sun against a deep grey sky brings out the yellow greens, as the sun nears the horizon the landscape absorbs the deepening colour of the sun and takes on a mellowness unseen at other hours.
I have been lucky to travel a bit and I hold many images inside while photography remind me of the details of place. Place fascinates me, here in the UK that sense of place changes within small distances rewarding the viewer with new vistas and scenes influenced by the rocks, rivers, plants and man's impact.

I am interested in large manufacturing site building, shape and form, and in their decay, colour and texture.
Modern building facades are also a source of pattern.

In my own, small way, I am planning to allow myself to experiment with a take on the landscapes, times of year and times of day that speak to me.
The following photographs are likely to figure in my work as I develop my practice:

Among the places which hold deep resonance is Sri Lanka. We were amazed and fascinated by the long history of it's people and their beliefs, marveling at temples, statues and decorative arts in the Cultural Triangle and then enjoying the freer coastal area with whales, fishing and abundant wildlife.
In my Blog page I explain the particular impetus for commencing this work and share the images that inspired me and the experimental work carried out to reach a resolution in part.
