Inspired to Create.....
A recent visit to India has fed my obsession with colour and pattern and set me off on an exploration of textiles with a nod to the inspiring images I came home with.
Developing textile work from these images....
Where to start? I shall spend time absorbing thoughts before I start to experiment.
Investigating paper lamination so that I can use images directly in a resolved piece. Learning from the mistakes made as I started work on the Sri Lanka pieces, less time will be spent in sampling.
My aim is to produce an abstract piece which has the feel of the places without being representational.
I have begun my experimental pieces and details of these will now be in my Blog pages.

Ready to begin work on two major pieces!
Nearly a year after my wonderful experiece of visiting India I am finally ready to commence work. I have in mind two contrasting pieces - a robust, bright, loud collection of colour and texture and a larger, more contemplative composition reflecting the peace present in the Mughal temples when shorn of the crowds.
In the first piece I am using a collection of silk fabrics purchased while in Jaipur and in the second fabrics I plan to dye over the weekend. Progress will be shared through the Blog pages as I explore the possibilities.

4/2/19 Rajasthani inspired abstraction:
The amazing array of brilliant colours I found remain some of the most vivid images of the holiday. From these and my collection of fabrics bought in Jaipur I have now begun to work on a simple, but loud abstraction.
It is my habit now to try a sample piece so that I can work through some of the issues I may face before commencing the real thing.

20/04/19 Rajasthani wall hanging is finally finished!
The wall hanging is now finished. It has taken so long because of the amount of hand stitch that covers the surface. It has been a pleasure to work with cloth in hand, feeling what should be added next and enjoying the slow development. It is far more relaxing than working on the machine.
There are many faults with the piece which I sadly didn't really notice until too late to rectify. (Note to self - hang the piece up so you can see it all regularly)

07/01/19 Experimental Journal Quilts in 2019
I am joining the Contemporary Quilts Journal Quilt challenge this year. It means making a small A4 quilt every month. There are some additional criteria to comply with but these will encourage a more diverse approach to my work. No matter which set criteria I am using my theme will be India and I will therefore be using these mini quilts to help me make design decisions for a larger piece of work.
In the first four months we are bidden to select a construction methodology which will be used for each of these initial four quilts.
My chosen construction technique is Applique and my image will be Domes.
