Two exhibitions dominated my creative output during 2016/17. Firstly a small group of us set ourselves a challenge to produce three related quilts to measure no more than 200cm across on the theme of Journey. My take on this was inspired by visiting north west Scotland, seeing the Road to the Isles and walking a section of Wade's Roads. General Wade had been changed with subduing the highlands and realised that without proper routes the army could not do as instructed. I don't think one can visit coastal areas of western Scotland without being profoundly moved by the plight of dispossessed people.

Bodies of water
In April 2016 all Threaded Together exhibited their collection of work with the title "Threaded Together".
My inspiration for this was the thread of movement and reflection in different bodies of water.
Piece 1 came from an image taken while drifting down the Rufigi river in Tanzania with the sun sinking reflecting in the ripples of the water. This period was the beginning of my serious interest in abstraction and reflects a journey in respect of practical fabric manipulation and design reconciliation.

RUFIGI SUNDOWN
Moonlit Zambezi
Inspired by watching the waters of the Zambezi hurtle towards the precipice that is Victoria Falls in the bright moonlit evening.

Bergen Harbour at night inspired this piece. Watching the ever changing patterns in the murky water while the lights from the buildings on the other side of the harbour were reflected in the water.
Still Waters
While at anchor deep in a fjord the water shimmered and danced slowly around the ship. I have tried to catch this peaceful moment here.
